Adrian Taunton Born in 1939

the latest in a line of painters stretching back to William Taunton (1809 – 96), the last known pupil of David Cox and a collector of John Constable. Educated at Norwich School and Caius College, Cambridge, his early career with Unilever took him to West Africa and London, before eventually returning to his native Norfolk where he first started to paint.

Although Taunton has had no formal art training, his paintings have been shown in numerous one-man and mixed exhibitions in London and East Anglia, including the R.I. at the Mall Galleries, the London Fine Arts Fair at the Barbican and the 20th Century British Art Fair at the Royal College of Art. Twice his entries have reached the finalists’ exhibition of the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.

Adrian Taunton has been steeped in the work of the great East Anglian painters from an early age and cites the late Edward Seago, a friend of his father’s, as one of the greatest influences on his artistic awareness. Working mainly in watercolour, his landscapes and marine paintings are evidence of his deep appreciation of the East Anglian scene – dramatic skies, open horizons and the particular atmosphere of the light in eastern England.
