Kit Wade a painter but also enjoy working in textiles, jewellery and glass. My starting place is observation and a personal response to things and places. I enjoy looking for image in the marine, urban and 'proper' landscape. I use images taken from landscapes and the East Coast - trees, boats, fields, harbours, skies.. that kind of thing, using strong colour whether that be paint, textiles or glass. I begin a piece of work with close reference to its starting place - some will end up a long way from where they began, whilst others stay closer to their beginnings.
If my work draws another person's attention to that same colour, pattern or circumstance in the day to day world, then to me it is successful. I spent many years teaching Art and Design, and don't see paintings just as a commodity, valuable only in terms of money. 'Art' should be available to as many who can make it,or like it, or 'to whom it speaks'.
Colour in its many forms - paint, glass, textiles, sea, sky, boats, apples, ladybirds - these are the things I most enjoy, along with a sense of place and the heroism of the small act in a large world......it's a James Cook, Claude Monet, Ralph Lillford, Henry Freeman, Robert Rauschenberg, Henry Blogg, Peter Lanyon, Harold Armstrong, Lilian Colbourn sort of thing.
I have exhibited work in Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Berwickshire Norfolk and Suffolk, and have work in private collections both in UK and overseas
